Antalis South Africa (Pty) Ltd celebrating the Royal Wedding in style- 22-07-2011
"So far 2011 has been a year of awards for Antalis so we couldn’t let a Guinness World Record pass us by!"commented Keith Solomon, Director of Antalis.
“In conjunction with DTM (for Eastgate Shopping Centre) and Typesetting & Repro Services we created the Worlds largest card in honour of the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they are now called, which took place on Friday, 29 April 2011 and was allegedly watched by more than 3 billion people worldwide!”
The card, which took five days to prepare, design and test, was 2.8 metres high and 39 metres wide (taking up a total of 110.73 sqaure metres). It was freestanding with three folds, made of recycled paper and looked just like a commercial greeting card – only to Royal Standards!
“We decided that 18mm Hexacomb Board, with its excellent quality and cutting ability, was up for the job and we were right. The final result was outstanding,” continued Solomon. “As suppliers of the board we are constantly impressed with it’s excellent quality and cutting ability. It is also 100% recycled and was available in the correct thickness with the relevant edging tape that was required by the printers.”
Once the design had been approved it took 14 hours to install, which was made even more difficult due to the fact that the crew had to work in the evening, as this was the only time they had free access to the shopping centre.
All the teams involved were ecstatic with the results, the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone was exceptional. The card was displayed at the Mall for over two weeks and admired by thousands of Royal Enthusiasts.
Although we are waiting for the office approval from London we already feel like winners! What a spectacular way to celebrate a historic moment, I am proud of everyone involvedconcluded Solomon.
