Going like a Boeing With CTP and Flexo - 28-04-2010

For many years Antalis has been the leading supplier of flexographic systems and plates in the South African market. This sector of the market has numerous developments in recent years with local customers accepting the latest technology and reaping the benefits.

Digital flexographic systems have become an important part of the Antalis portfolio. In the middle of last year, the man responsible for the flexo sector of the Antalis product portfolio – Mike Wilkins - retired after many years of dedicated service. What was needed was someone who could take on the portfolio and continue the success Mike had achieved.

The person who volunteered for the challenge was Gunther Naubereit, a man as big in enthusiasm as he is tall. Although he understood that a big learning curve would ensue, he jumped at the opportunity. However, another challenge faced Gunther, he would have to continue with his existing product ranges as well.

Unphased by the enormity of this task, Gunther began studying the technology of flexography and learning about the products which Antalis offers. He commented, ‘This has been a big challenge for me as I had never been involved in the flexo market before and had to learn about the products and applications, but it has been very interesting and I am really enjoying it.’

In addition to his foray in flexo, Gunther has continued to remain active in the lithographic computer-to-plate market and has assisted a number of customers, including Nippy Print, Mailtronic, Sendit Press, Collage Litho and Gartone Press with making the transition to in-house CTP solutions, as well as continuing to supply customers with large-format printing and proofing solutions. He has also supplied Zippy Labels with a new DuPont  exposure unit for its flexo plates.

Recently Gunther has had to learn about an entirely new solution from Kodak, the Flexcel NX system from Kodak which is designed to provide even higher quality than other flexographic CTP systems.

Said Keith Solomon, Director of Antalis, ‘Gunther has astounded all of us with his drive and enthusiasm. He has taken on the flexographic portfolio and grasped the intricacies of the market place while at the same time continuing to achieve impressive results in the other areas at the same time.’
