Antalis continues with CTP success - 28-04-2010


Antalis has been on a drive to assist as many customers as possible to make the transition to computer-to-plate. This is due to the fact that worldwide the volume of lithographic film in use is on the decline and existing film prices are continually rising.

According the Mel Ellis, national product manager at Antalis, more and more customers are seeing that computer-to-plate is becoming a necessity. He added, ‘Since Kodak announced that it was exiting the film market in the middle of last year, we have been trying our utmost to assist as many of our film-based customers to make the move to CTP as possible. Kodak is assisting us in whatever way it can. In addition, many of our existing CTP are also making expanding their systems. So, while we are not sure how the world of print will develop in years to come, we are at least certain that we have helped as many of our customers as possible to take advantage of the latest technology.’

Brand Effects in Durban is the latest customer to make the move to CTP with the installation of a Kodak Trendsetter 800 platesetter with Prinergy Evo digital front-end. Brand Effects started out as a signage company serving the Durban market but recently moved into lithographic printing with the installation of a five-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster press. According the Lithographic manager Peter Surtees, computer-to-plate was the only option. He added, ‘You cannot go backwards, computer-to-plate is the only solution, especially when you have a state-of-the-art press, you cannot use old technology in the prepress section and expect to get top results.’

The choice of supplier was also automatic for Surtees. Despite having looked at the systems which are available on the market, Surtees knew that his choice of supplier was set. A relationship spanning decades in the printing industry meant that Surtees was confident that Antalis could supply the right system to meet Brand Effects’ requirements.

Another customer which is reaping the benefits of its relationship with Antalis is Afripak Consumer Division, which recently upgraded its Prinergy Connect software to the latest version and at the same time expanded its license from four seats to five.
